The Brewers have placed starting 2B Rickie Weeks on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left knee. Weeks has played in 59 games this season and he is 48 for 229 (.210 avg, .683 OPS) with 43 runs scored, 7 homers, 20 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. Weeks will be replaced at 2B by Craig Counsell and Joe Dillon. Counsell has played in 40 games this season for the Brewers and he is 17 for 76 (.224 avg, .625 OPS) with 8 runs scored and 5 RBIs. He is a much better defender than Joe Dillon but Dillon is the better hitter. Dillon has played in 30 games this season for the Brewers and he is 11 for 40 (.275 avg, .770 OPS) with 7 runs scored and 3 RBIs. The Brewers have recalled 23-year old lefty hitting infielder Hernan Iribarren from AAA ball to replace Weeks on the roster. He has played in 6 games for the Brewers this season and he is 2 for 7 (.286 avg, .715 OPS) with 1 run scored and 1 RBI. Iribarren has also played in 49 games in AAA ball this season and he was 51 for 187 (.273 avg, .664 OPS) with 26 runs scored, 15 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. He likely won’t get to play too much while Weeks is out.
