The Milwaukee Brewers sign outfielder Jay Gibbons
The Brewers have signed 31-year old OF/1B Jay Gibbons to a minor league contract. Gibbons has been pretty much begging for work saying that he would donate his salary to any teams’ charity that gave him a chance. That’s because of his role in the Mitchell Report which was very damning. Gibbons played in 84 games for the Orioles last season and he was 62 for 270 (.230 avg, .620 OPS) with 28 runs scored, 6 homers and 28 RBIs. The Brewers are hoping that Gibbons’ success in his career wasn’t only because of HGH but they will find out soon enough. Gibbons has now played in 779 games in his major league career and he is 724 for 2,787 (.260 avg, .767 OPS) with 438 runs scored, 121 homers and 405 RBIs. Look for him to get a look when rosters expand if he plays well in the minors for the Brewers. He will start out in AA.
