Righty swinging 2B/3B/OF Paul Molitor was one of the best players in Brewers’ history. In 15 years with the Brewers, Molitor made the All-Star team 5 times and he won 2 Silver Slugger Awards. He was elected into Baseball’s Hall of Fame in 2004. Molitor played in 1,856 games with the Brewers and he was 2,281 of 7,520 (.303 avg, .811 OPS) with 1,275 runs scored, 160 homers, 790 RBIs and 412 stolen bases. Molitor was #2 all-time in games played (1,856) in Brewers’ history. Molitor is the Brewers’ all-time leader in stolen bases (412) and he’s #3 in hits (2,281), #3 in batting average (.303), #9 in OPS (.811), #2 in runs scored (1,275), #9 in homers (160), #3 in RBIs (790), #2 in doubles (405), tied for 2nd in triples (86) and he’s #2 in walks with 755. If Molitor would have played his whole career with the Brewers he would have been the best player in team history.

Lefty starting pitcher Mike Caldwell was a solid pitcher in his time with the Brewers. He pitched 8 seasons with the Brewers and he appeared in 239 games (217 starts) in which he was 102-80 with 2 saves, a 3.74 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. His best season with the Brewers was 1978 when he finished 2nd in the voting for the Cy Young Award. Caldwell pitched in 37 games (34 starts) with the Brewers in 1978 and he was 22-9 with 1 save, a 2.36 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. Caldwell is the Brewers’ all-time leader in complete games with 81. He is also #4 all-time in Brewers’ history in games started (217), #2 in wins (102), #7 in ERA (3.74), #2 in shutouts (18), #2 in innings pitched (1,604 2/3) and he is #10 in strikeouts (540). Caldwell wasn’t a flamethrower but he got the job done for the Brewers and that’s the bottom line.

The Brewers once had a nickname of Harvey’s Wall Bangers which was because manager Harvey Kuenn was putting out a line-up with a ton of power for a while. Gorman Thomas was one of those guys for sure. He was often a all or nothing hitter for the Brewers. From 1978-1982 he was crushing the ball for the Brewers. Over those five years, Thomas played in 716 games in which he was 630 for 2,567 (.245 avg) with 395 runs scored, 175 homers and 491 RBIs. He led the American League in homers in both 1979 (45) and 1982 (39). Thomas played 11 years for the Brewers in which he was 815 of 3,544 (.230 avg, .786 OPS) with 524 runs scored, 208 homers, 605 RBIs and 38 stolen bases. To prove he was all or nothing all you have to know is that he whiffed 1,033 times in his career. Thomas is still #9 in runs scored, #3 in homers and #6 in RBIs in Brewers’ history.
