Cecil Cooper was a wizard with the bat for the Milwaukee Brewers

Whenever anyone brings up Milwaukee Brewers history, Robin Yount and Paul Molitor come to mind. But, lefty swinging 1B Cecil Cooper was also a great hitter during that era of Brewers’ history. His best year with the Brewers without a doubt was 1980 when he was simply amazing. Cooper played in 153 games for the Brewers in 1980 and he was 219 for 622 (.352 avg, .926 OPS) with 96 runs scored, 25 homers, 122 RBIs (led the majors) and 17 stolen bases. Even more amazing than those numbers is the fact that Cooper only whiffed 42 times in 1980. Cooper was #5 in the MVP Voting in 1980. He also made the All-Star team, won a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger Award in 1980. Cooper played in 1,490 games in his 11 years with the Brewers and he is 1,815 of 6,019 (.302 avg, .809 OPS) with 821 runs scored, 201 homers, 944 RBIs and 77 stolen bases. Cooper is #4 in games played (1,490) in Brewers’ history. He is also #3 in hits (1,815), #4 in batting average (.302), #3 in runs scored (821), #3 in doubles (345), #5 in triples (33), #5 in homers (201) and #2 in RBIs (944) in Brewers’ history. Cooper made it to 5 All-Star teams, won 2 Gold Glove Awards and he won 3 Silver Slugger Awards in his 11 years with the Brewers.

Dan Plesac had a very solid career for the Milwaukee Brewers

Lefty reliever Dan Plesac has a very solid career for the Milwaukee Brewers. His best year for the Brewers was 1989. He pitched in 52 games (0 starts) for the Brewers in 1989 and he was 3-4 with 33 saves, a 2.35 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP. Plesac pitched in 365 games (14 starts) in his 7 years with the Brewers and he was 29-37 with 133 saves, a 3.21 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. He made 3 A.L. All-Star teams in his time with the Brewers. Plesac is the Brewers’ all-time leader in games pitched (365), saves (133) and ERA (3.21). He is also #2 in WHIP (1.23) in Brewers’ history. Many people forget just how good Dan Plesac was.

Robin Yount was one of the best players in Milwaukee Brewers’ history

SS/CF Robin Yount is all over the record books for the Milwaukee Brewers. He won the American League MVP Award in 1982 as a shortstop and in 1989 as a centerfielder. In 1982, Yount played in 156 games in which he was 210 for 635 (.331 avg, .957 OPS) with 129 runs scored, 29 homers, 114 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. Yount also won a Silver Slugger Award, a Gold Glove Award and he made the All-Star Team in 1982. In 1989, Yount played in 160 games in which he was 195 of 614 (.318 avg, .896 OPS) with 101 runs scored, 21 homers, 103 RBIs and 19 stolen bases. He won a Silver Slugger Award in 1989. Yount only made it to 3 All-Star teams in his 20 years with the Brewers. He also won 3 Silver Slugger Awards and 1 Gold Glove. Yount played in 2,856 games in his 20 years with the Brewers and he was 3,142 of 11,008 (.285 avg, .772 OPS) with 1,632 runs scored, 251 homers, 1,406 RBIs and 271 stolen bases. Yount is the Brewers’ all-time leader in games played (2,856), hits (3,142), runs scored (1,632), doubles (583), triples (126), homers (251), RBIs (1,406) and walks (966). Yount is also #2 in Brewers’ history in stolen bases with 271. Yount played his whole major league career with the Milwaukee Brewers and he was elected into Baseball’s Hall of Fame in 1999.

Geoff Jenkins to retire as a Milwaukee Brewer tonight

35-year old lefty swinging outfielder Geoff Jenkins will retire as a Milwaukee Brewer tonight. He played 10 years for the Brewers appearing in 1,234 games in which he was 1,221 of 4,407 (.277 avg, .843 OPS) with 661 runs scored, 212 homers, 704 RBIs and 31 stolen bases. Jenkins made the All-Star team in 2003 for the Brewers. He played in 124 games in 2003 and he was 144 of 487 (.296 avg, .913 OPS) with 81 runs scored, 28 homers and 95 RBIs. Jenkins finished his career #6 in Brewers’ history in games played with 1,234. He also is #5 in runs scored (661), #5 in hits (1,221), #4 in doubles (287), tied for #9 in triples (22), #2 in homers (212), #4 in RBIs (704) and #9 in walks (394) in Brewers’ history. Jenkins was a class act and a solid player for the Brewers.

Paul Molitor was one of the best players in Milwaukee Brewers’ history

Righty swinging 2B/3B/OF Paul Molitor was one of the best players in Brewers’ history. In 15 years with the Brewers, Molitor made the All-Star team 5 times and he won 2 Silver Slugger Awards. He was elected into Baseball’s Hall of Fame in 2004. Molitor played in 1,856 games with the Brewers and he was 2,281 of 7,520 (.303 avg, .811 OPS) with 1,275 runs scored, 160 homers, 790 RBIs and 412 stolen bases. Molitor was #2 all-time in games played (1,856) in Brewers’ history. Molitor is the Brewers’ all-time leader in stolen bases (412) and he’s #3 in hits (2,281), #3 in batting average (.303), #9 in OPS (.811), #2 in runs scored (1,275), #9 in homers (160), #3 in RBIs (790), #2 in doubles (405), tied for 2nd in triples (86) and he’s #2 in walks with 755. If Molitor would have played his whole career with the Brewers he would have been the best player in team history.
