28-year old righty swinging RF Corey Hart finished in a tie for 25th in the voting for the N.L. MVP Award with starting pitcher Josh Johnson of the Marlins and closer Heath Bell of the Padres. Hart played in 145 games for the Brewers last season and he was 158 of 558 (.283 avg, .865 OPS) with 91 runs scored, 31 homers, 102 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. Hart has now played in 666 games in his first 7 years with the Brewers and he is 658 of 2,389 (.275 avg, .812 OPS) with 358 runs scored, 98 homers, 362 RBIs and 71 stolen bases. It appears as if Corey Hart is a late bloomer.

27-year old righty swinging LF Ryan Braun finished 15th in the voting for the N.L. MVP Award. Braun played in 157 games for the Brewers last season and he was 188 of 619 (.304 avg, .866 OPS) with 101 runs scored, 25 homers, 103 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. He has now played in 579 games in his first four years with the Brewers and he is 711 of 2,316 (.307 avg, .918 OPS) with 397 runs scored, 128 homers, 420 RBIs and 63 stolen bases. Braun might get himself one of these awards in the near future because he’s that good.

The Brewers are sending OF Ryan Braun, righty starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo and OF Corey Hart to the All-Star Game. Ryan Braun has been elected to the All-Star Team by the fans so he will be starting. He has played in 80 games for the Brewers this season and he is 96 of 325 (.295 avg, .825 OPS) with 50 runs scored, 11 homers, 51 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. This will be the third time Braun has played in the mid-summer classic. 24-year old Yovanni Gallardo might miss his first All-Star Game as he was injured in yesterday’s game. Gallardo has started 18 games for the Brewers so far this season and he is 8-4 with a 2.58 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. He has only given up 93 hits in 111 2/3 innings this season while whiffing 122 batters showing how nasty he has been. Gallardo’s only weakness is his control as he has walked 48 batters so far this year. Corey Hart has played in 74 games for the Brewers this season and he is 79 of 276 (.286 avg, .922 OPS) with 42 runs scored, 19 homers, 61 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. This will be Hart’s 2nd All-Star appearance which isn’t bad seeing how he was platooning with Jim Edmonds when the 2010 season started.

26-year old righty swinging LF Ryan Braun of the Brewers finished 11th in the voting for the N.L. MVP Award. He played in 158 games for the Brewers last season and he was 203 for 635 (.320 avg, .937 OPS) with 113 runs scored, 32 homers, 114 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. Braun has now played in 422 games in his three years in Milwaukee and he is 523 for 1,697 (.308 avg, .937 OPS) with 296 runs scored, 103 homers, 317 RBIs and 49 stolen bases. Braun will continue to get a lot of votes for the MVP Award as long as he stays healthy because he and Prince Fielder make a deadly combination in the Brewers’ lineup.

25-year old lefty swinging 1B Prince Fielder finished 4th in the voting for the MVP Award in the N.L. He played in all 162 games last season and he was 177 for 591 (.299 avg, 1.014 OPS) with 103 runs scored, 46 homers and 141 RBIs. He has now played five years for the Brewers appearing in 675 games in which he is 675 for 2,380 (.284 avg, .931 OPS) with 382 runs scored, 160 homers, 453 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. There were whispers around the internet that the Brewers were going to entertain making a deal involving Prince Fielder but I’m going on record saying that it would probably be the biggest mistake in team history if they did. Fielder is a dependable player who the Brewers can build a offense around and they should keep him for a very long time as he hasn’t hit his prime quite yet.
