Taylor Green is ripping the ball in the minors for the Milwaukee Brewers

24-year old righty swinging 3B Taylor Green was once one of the brighter prospects the Brewers had. It seems like he’s now a legit prospect again as he is pounding the ball in the minors. Green has played in 70 games in AA+AAA-ball this year and he is 72 for 232 (.310 avg, .909 OPS) with 37 runs scored, 11 homers and 41 RBIs. He has now played in 562 games in his six years in the minors and he is 563 for 2,298 (.283 avg, .805 OPS) with 278 runs scored, 60 homers, 352 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. Green could wind up either helping the Brewers later this year or he could be a very nice trade chip at the trade deadline.

Nyjer Morgan might start earning more P.T. for the Milwaukee Brewers soon

With starting CF Carlos Gomez still struggling with the bat, it might only be a matter of time before he’s replaced by 30-year old lefty swinging Nyjer Morgan in CF. Morgan has played in 22 games in June so far and he is 22 for 71 (.310 avg, .802 OPS) with 13 runs scored, 2 homers, 9 RBIs and 1 stolen base. He has now played in 42 games for the Brewers this year and he is 38 for 115 (.330 avg, .859 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 2 homers, 13 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Morgan has outplayed Gomez this year and he might kick him to the bench sometime soon.

The Milwaukee Brewers call up Mat Gamel

With the Brewers ready to play on the road in interleague play, they decided they needed another bat. So they have called up 25-year old lefty swinging 1B/3B Mat Gamel from AAA. Gamel played in 68 games in AAA-ball this year and he was 94 for 293 (.321 avg, .957 OPS) with 54 runs scored, 18 homers, 58 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. The Brewers hope that Gamel is better this time around as he has played in 75 games in parts of three years in the majors and he is 35 for 145 (.241 avg, .749 OPS) with 12 runs scored, 5 homers, 21 RBIs and 1 stolen base. The Brewers could also be showcasing Gamel with the trade deadline fastly approaching.

The Milwaukee Brewers DFA Sergio Mitre

Blogged under General, Front Page, Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Monday 27 June 2011 at 6:05 pm

The Brewers have designated 30-year old righty relief pitcher Sergio Mitre for assignment. Mitre pitched in 22 games (0 starts) for the Brewers this year and he was 0-1 with a 3.27 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP. Mitre has now pitched in 139 games (64 starts) in his first 8 years in the majors and he is 13-30 with a 5.13 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP. I’m a little surprised that the Brewers decided to make this move as Mitre has pitched pretty well for them this year. I see the Brewers dealing Mitre because I don’t think he will clear waivers. Maybe the Brewers will deal Mitre back to the Yankees as they are desperate for relief help right now.

UPDATE: (6/30/2011) - The Brewers have dealt Sergio Mitre to the Yankees for cash considerations.

Cecil Cooper was a wizard with the bat for the Milwaukee Brewers

Whenever anyone brings up Milwaukee Brewers history, Robin Yount and Paul Molitor come to mind. But, lefty swinging 1B Cecil Cooper was also a great hitter during that era of Brewers’ history. His best year with the Brewers without a doubt was 1980 when he was simply amazing. Cooper played in 153 games for the Brewers in 1980 and he was 219 for 622 (.352 avg, .926 OPS) with 96 runs scored, 25 homers, 122 RBIs (led the majors) and 17 stolen bases. Even more amazing than those numbers is the fact that Cooper only whiffed 42 times in 1980. Cooper was #5 in the MVP Voting in 1980. He also made the All-Star team, won a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger Award in 1980. Cooper played in 1,490 games in his 11 years with the Brewers and he is 1,815 of 6,019 (.302 avg, .809 OPS) with 821 runs scored, 201 homers, 944 RBIs and 77 stolen bases. Cooper is #4 in games played (1,490) in Brewers’ history. He is also #3 in hits (1,815), #4 in batting average (.302), #3 in runs scored (821), #3 in doubles (345), #5 in triples (33), #5 in homers (201) and #2 in RBIs (944) in Brewers’ history. Cooper made it to 5 All-Star teams, won 2 Gold Glove Awards and he won 3 Silver Slugger Awards in his 11 years with the Brewers.
