The Brewers have signed 29-year old lefty starting pitcher Chris Waters to a minor league deal. Waters pitched in 5 games (1 start) for the Orioles last season and he was 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. He also pitched in 29 games (20 starts) in AAA-ball last season and he was 9-7 with a 4.49 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. Waters has now pitched in 16 games (12 starts) in his major league career and he is 4-5 with a 5.07 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP. This was a nice little gamble to the Brewers to take on the soft tossing lefty.

The Brewers have signed 33-year old righty swinging catcher Matt Treanor to a minor league deal. Treanor played in 4 games for the Tigers last season and he was 0 for 13 (.000 avg, .071 OPS). He has now played in 278 games in his six years in the majors and he is 171 for 736 (.232 avg, .629 OPS) with 63 runs scored, 8 homers and 70 RBIs. Treanor will battle for the back-up job in spring training for the Brewers.

Kameron Loe signs with the Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers have signed 28-year old righty starter/reliever Kameron Loe to a minor league deal. He last pitched in the majors in 2006 with the Rangers. He has pitched in 107 games (47 starts) in his major league career and he is 19-23 with 1 save, a 4.77 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP. This was a good low risk signing for the Brewers as Loe could help them in either middle relief or the back end of the starting rotation in 2010.

The Brewers have signed 27-year old lefty reliever A.J. Murray to a minor league deal. Murray pitched in 41 games (0 starts) in AA+AAA ball last season and he was 4-2 with 1 save, a 2.87 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. He has also pitched in 16 games (4 starts) in two years in the majors in which he is 2-2 with a 4.29 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. I like this signing for the Brewers as you can never have too much lefty pitching.

The Milwaukee Brewers re-sign Craig Counsell

The Brewers have re-signed 39-year old lefty swinging 2B/SS/3B Craig Counsell to a 1-year, $2.1 million dollar deal with a possible $500,000 bucks in incentives. Counsell played in 130 games for the Brewers last season and he was 115 for 404 (.285 avg, .766 OPS) with 61 runs scored, 4 homers, 39 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Counsell has now played in four years with the Brewers appearing in 502 games in which he is 347 for 1,407 (.247 avg, .679 OPS) with 182 runs scored, 10 homers, 100 RBIs and 27 stolen bases. This was a good signing for the Brewers as Counsell really played well for them in 2009.
