The Brewers have traded 32-year old lefty swinging outfielder Jason Tyner to the Tigers for future considerations. Tyner played in 9 games in AAA-ball for the Brewers this season and he was 2 for 21 (.095 avg, .262 OPS) with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. The Brewers didn’t like what they saw out of Tyner in the minors so they won’t miss him at all.

The Brewers have placed righty reliever David Riske on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow tightness. He has pitched in 1 game this season for the Brewers working 1 inning and allowing 4 hits and 2 earned runs. Riske has now pitched in 46 games (0 starts) in his career with the Brewers and he has disappointed with a 1-2 record, 5.61 ERA and a 1.75 WHIP. The Brewers have expected much more than they have gotten from Riske so far.

UPDATE: Riske will be undergoing Tommy John Surgery and he will miss the remainder of the 2009 season.

Corey Hart has turned into a pretty solid player for the Milwaukee Brewers

27-year old righty swinging Corey Hart has turned into one of the building blocks of the Milwaukee Brewers. He played in 157 games for the Brewers last season and he was 164 for 612 (.268 avg, .759 OPS) with 76 runs scored, 20 homers, 91 RBIs and 23 stolen bases. Hart made 5 errors in 156 games for the Brewers in RF last season while showing below average range. But, he does have a strong throwing arm as he had 8 assists.

26-year old lefty swinging Tony Gwynn Jr. might get another shot at some point in 2009 but he’s starting the season in the minors. Gwynn played in 29 games for the Brewers last season in which he was 8 for 42 (.190 avg, .485 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 1 RBI and 3 stolen bases. He also played in 93 AAA games last season and he was 103 for 375 (.275 avg, .659 OPS) with 47 runs scored, 2 homers, 26 RBIs and 20 stolen bases.

Mike Cameron is still around for the 2009 season for the Milwaukee Brewers

Blogged under General, Front Page, Positional Previews for Season, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Saturday 4 April 2009 at 9:10 pm

The Brewers attempted to trade 36-year old righty swinging CF Mike Cameron almost all winter long but they couldn’t find any takers. Cameron played in 120 games for the Brewers last season and he was 108 for 444 (.243 avg, .808 OPS) with 69 runs scored, 25 homers, 70 RBIs and 17 stolen bases. Cameron is a outstanding CF as he only made 1 error in 119 games there but for some reason he showed below average range last season. Cameron better keep his nose clean in 2009 as he was suspended by Major League Baseball last season for using performance enhancing drugs.

28-year old lefty swinging Chris Duffy will back up Cameron in 2009 for the Brewers. He played in 30 games in AA+AAA ball last season in which he was 29 for 108 (.269 avg, .756 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 2 homers, 10 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. He has a lot of experience in the majors so he should be able to handle a bench job in 2009.

22-year old righty swinging Lorenzo Cain is the #6 prospect on the Milwaukee Brewers according to Baseball America. He played in 126 games in A+AA+AAA ball last season in which he was 135 for 484 (.279 avg, .804 OPS) with 71 runs scored, 11 homers, 60 RBIs and 25 stolen bases. He might get a chance to show what he can do with the Brewers this season if Cameron is moved in a trade at some point in 2009.

PROJECTED GRADE FOR THE 2009 SEASON: B-

Ryan Braun will be a beast again in LF for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2009

Blogged under General, Front Page, Positional Previews for Season, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Saturday 4 April 2009 at 9:03 pm

25-year old righty swinging Ryan Braun adjusted very well to LF for the Brewers last season. He had a iron glove in 2007 as a rookie 3B but he worked hard into making himself a good outfielder with a lot of hard work. Braun didn’t make any errors in 149 games in LF last season while showing average range. He also showed his strong throwing arm nailing 9 runners trying to advance on him. Braun played in 151 games for the Brewers last year and he was 174 for 611 (.285 avg, .888 OPS) with 92 runs scored, 37 homers, 106 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. Look for Braun to have another monster year with the bat for the Brewers in 2009.

31-year old lefty swinging Jason Tyner will likely back up Braun in 2009. Tyner played in 1 game for the Indians last season in which he was 0 for 2 (.000 avg, .333 OPS). He also played in 97 games in AAA-ball last season in which he was 76 for 307 (.248 avg) with 39 runs scored, 1 homer, 18 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. Tyner is a good defensive outfielder due to his speed which is good.

PROJECTED GRADE FOR THE 2009 SEASON: A+
