The Brewers have decided that Geoff Jenkins was not worth the $9 million dollar option for 2008 so they declined it and have made him a free agent. Jenkins played in 132 games last season for the Brewers and he was 107 for 420 (.255 avg, .790 OPS) with 45 runs scored, 21 homers and 64 RBIs. He was pretty much a platoon player last season but he had a good run in his career with the Brewers. Jenkins played in 1,234 games as a Brewer and he was 1,221 for 4.407 (.277 avg, .843 OPS) with 661 runs scored, 212 homers and 704 RBIs. Jenkins won’t have a problem getting a new job but he will definately have to take a pay cut.

The Milwaukee Brewers decline Corey Koskie’s option for 2008

The Brewers have declined the option year in Corey Koskie’s contract making him a free agent. The Brewers didn’t get much return for their money the last two seasons from Koskie. Koskie suffered a severe concussion during the 2006 season and he didn’t play at all in 2007 for the Brewers. In 2006, Koskie played in 76 games for the Brewers and he was 67 for 257 (.261 avg, .833 OPS) with 29 runs scored, 12 homers and 33 RBIs. It’s too bad that Koskie didn’t work out for the Brewers because he has solid career numbers. He has played in 989 games in his major league career and he’s 936 for 3,399 (.275 avg, .825 OPS) with 516 runs scored, 124 homers, 506 RBIs and 71 stolen bases. He will try to come back with another team for the 2008 season.

The Milwaukee Brewers need Rickie Weeks to start living up to his hype

The Brewers either need Rickie Weeks to start living up to the hype or they need to stick him on the bench or another city. He has played in 316 games with the Brewers in his young career and he’s 284 for 1,140 (.249 avg, .767 OPS) with 217 runs scored, 37 homers, 112 RBIs and 59 stolen bases. Weeks problem at the plate is that he thinks he’s Prince Fielder and he swings for the fence too much as he has whiffed 310 times already. His batting average would go up if he were just a little more selective at the plate and he would be able to use his speed better.
