Kevin Mench and Geoff Jenkins are ripping the baseball for the Milwaukee Brewers

Mench and Jenkins were supposed to platoon in left field this season, but they’ve both played so well that they’ve cut into Corey Hart’s playing time in right field. Mench has played in 18 games this season and he’s 21 for 59 (.356 avg, .909 OPS) with 11 runs scored, 2 homers and 8 RBIs. Jenkins has played in 16 games so far this season and he’s 19 for 54 (.352 avg, .990 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 3 homers and 9 RBIs. It’s possible that if Jenkins and Mench keep ripping the ball like they are right now that one of them will take over the right field job with the other one starting in left field fulltime. Manager Ned Yost’s strategy of making Jenkins & Mench share a position has paid huge dividends as it lit a fire under their butts.

The Milwaukee Brewers need more from Tony Graffanino

With Corey Koskie out with post-concussion syndrome, the Brewers decided to go with a Graffanino/Counsell platoon at thirdbase. Graffanino isn’t holding up his end of the bargain so far this season. In 13 games this year Graffanino is only hitting .200 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. If he doesn’t start hitting soon the Brewers could just give the full time job to Counsell.

The Milwaukee Brewers had an outstanding week

The Brewers were 5-2 last week and outscored their opponents 44-38. The whole key for the Brewers is their hitting, because the pitching is going to be there this season. The Brewers are currently in first place in the National League Central with an 11-7 record, 1.5 games ahead of the Astros.

Elmer Dessens off to a rough start for the Milwaukee Brewers

Elmer Dessens is one of the only Brewers’ relief pitchers that’s off to a rough start. He’s in danger of being the mop-up man if he doesn’t straighten his act up soon. In 6 games this season he’s 1-0 with a 9.00 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP. He has thrown 6 innings this season and he’s allowed 11 hits which is way too many. At least he’s only walked 1 batter but it seems as if batters are digging in at the plate against him so maybe he’ll need to knock a few guys off the plate.

The Milwaukee Brewers had a good week

The Milwaukee Brewers went 3-2 last week despite getting outscored 21-16. The Brewers need to start hitting a little better as their pitching staff has been pretty solid as advertised this season. The Brewers are tied for second place in the National League Central with the St. Louis Cardinals with a 6-5 record, 1/2 a game behind the Cincinnati Reds.
